What are Hurricanes?

On Readworks, our task was to read the text, and then we had to write two or three sentences of what we have learned.  I had fun reading and writing the text because it helped me learn more things about Hurricanes.

I have learned that Hurricanes are large, swirling storms with winds of 119 kilometers per hour (74 mph) or higher. That's faster than a cheetah, the fastest animal on land. I have also learned that a hurricane is categorized by its wind speed using the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. Category 1: Winds 119-153 km/hr (74-95 mph) - faster than a cheetah Category 2: Winds 154-177 km/hr (96-110 mph) - as fast or faster than a baseball pitcher's fastball Category 3: Winds 178-208 km/hr (111-129 mph) - similar, or close, to the serving speed of many professional tennis players Category 4: Winds 209-251 km/hr (130-156 mph) - faster than the world's fastest rollercoaster Category 5: Winds more than 252 km/hr (157 mph) - similar, or close, to the speed of some high-speed trains.

What is Antarctica

On Readworks, our task was to read the text, and then we had to write two or three sentences of what we have learned.  I had fun reading and writing the text because it helped me learn more things about Antarctica.

I have learned that Antarctica is a continent. It is Earth's fifth-largest continent and is covered almost completely in ice. Antarctica covers Earth's South Pole. I have also learned that Antarctica is the coldest place on Earth. The average temperature in Antarctica in the winter is minus 34.4 Celcius (minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit).

What Is Earth?

I have learned that scientists believe Earth and its moon formed around the same time as the rest of the solar system. I have also learned that Earth is the fifth-largest planet in the solar system.

On Readworks, our task was to read the text, and then we had to write two or three sentences of what we have learned.  I had fun reading and writing the text because it helped me learn more things about the Moon.

I have learned that the fifth-largest moon in the solar system, Earth's moon is the only place beyond Earth where humans have set foot. I have also learned that the brightest and largest object in our night sky, the moon makes Earth a more livable planet by moderating our home planet's wobble on its axis, leading to a relatively stable climate.

                                   

Our Home Planet (What are clouds?)

On Readworks, our task was to read the text, and then we had to write two or three sentences of what we have learned.  I had fun reading and writing this text because it helped me learn more things about clouds.

I have learned that a cloud is a mass of water drops or ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. I have also learned that clouds form from water in the sky. The water may evaporate from the ground or move from other areas.

Caricature

WALT: Draw a picture of ourselves and emphasise something about our face that stands out.

Our task was to draw all the different features of our faces on an A4 piece of paper first and then we had to draw it on cartridge.  After that we had to dye our drawing.  My favourite part was dyeing my work because Ms O'Dea made a range of different colours for us to use.  I could improve on doing my lines smoother, so they don't run into the dye and look messy. 

Victoria Falls

WALT: Increase our knowledge by reading a wide range of texts (Article a day - Book of Knowledge)

For this activity, we had to read the text about Victoria Falls, and then we had to write about what we have learned. I also think that I can work on writing more ideas or I can even write what I have learned by myself and not copy and paste the work.  

I have learned that Victoria Falls is one of the most impressive waterfalls on the planet. I have also learned that Victoria Falls can be heard from miles away.
