Build a blog comment - Beginner

W.A.L.T   What a quality blog comment is

I was learning what a quality blog comment is. For this activity, we had to start with a greeting and then we had to say what we loved and then we ended with a question.

I found it easy to make the greeting.
I found it difficult to find and end with a question.

I really enjoyed learning about positive and connective comments.

Next time I should add more detail.

Matariki and the Southern Lights art project

WALT: Create a Matariki and the Southern lights art project

1. Hold your plain A4 paper landscape and rip a mountain-like shape across it. This will be used to mask off the hills.

2. First, mask off the bottom third of your black paper with the ripped hill pattern you just made.

3. Then dip your toothbrush into some of the white acrylic paint, then run your fingers through the bristles of the toothbrush to flick paint over your black piece of paper. This will create the background starts.

4. While the stars are drying, use your ripped card and colour the top ripped edge of it in with your different coloured pastels. Make sure you change the colour every few centimetres.

5. Check that the paint has dried before continuing with this next step. If it is dry place the chalked paper onto your black paper. Now run your finger through the chalk upwards towards the stars. This should smudge the coloured chalk from the plain paper onto your picture.

6. Mix a small amount of yellow and white together. Make sure you use more white than yellow, you want it to only have a tint of yellow in it.

7. Using your toothpick or the end of a paintbrush dot in the Matariki constellation.

For this task, we had to draw a Matariki photo including the seven, or nine stars of Matariki. We also had to draw some light colours and then smudge the colours we drew upwards.

The ancient time

WALT: Write 100 words in 10mins

For this task, we had to write 100 words in 10mins so we learn how to write faster.

Once in an ancient time, there were four boys including Roman the big brains who kept them alive with his fantastic ideas, Dayton the group clown the funniest of them all and he is also strong and he is the guy who always makes the group laugh, Daz the fierce leader who likes to have fights and he is the one who has been training all three of them, and the last guy the speedy person Ryan he can run super-fast but he likes to eat vegetables and grass so he could keep fit and fast and they all went to fight the one million demons by themselves but after all of the fight was done the village people went to go check if they were all right but when they all arrived the four ancient men's weapons were all standing up but they were dead with all of the demons.

Fraction math word problems

WALT: Solve fraction maths word problems

For this task, we had to figure out the equation of each of the math word problems. We also had to do a math problem each day including Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

I really enjoyed doing this work because I got to be in a pair with a good friend, Lucian.

One thing I really think I should work on next time is that I should do the work by myself without help or a buddy.

Peer pressure

WALT: Find key information

For this task, we had to write what we know about peer pressure and what we want to learn about peer pressure. We also had to write questions about peer pressure.

Multi-step math word problems

WALT: Solve multi-step maths word problems

For this task, we had to 2 Maths word problems a day. Remember Ruma Rima, use what you know to solve the problems. When working through these problems try to see how many different strategies you use to can solve them. This will add more challenge and develop your mathematical thinking. Looking forward to hearing all the different strategies you used to work these out. For each word problem, write down the Equation (E), Working out (W.0), and the Answer (A). The problems may involve adding, subtracting, multiplying, or dividing. I liked doing this because we could try

The explorer

 W.A.L.T write 100 words in 10mins

For this task, we had to write a story in 10mins. Sometimes our teacher would pick a subject for us or we could just write our own story.

I really enjoyed writing this story because it helped me learn more and write quicker.  My next step would be to check my work for any wrong punctuation.

Here is my story.

One very cold day in the north pole there was an explorer. He was set on a mission to take a photo of every myth like Santa clause and the easter rabbit but he has only taken a photo of the easter bunny, the tooth fairy, and sandman so the explorer gets ready packs up his gear and takes a step outside of his tent. Walking around he can only see snow, snowflakes, and snowmen with carrot noses. The explorer keeps walking around until finally, the explorer finds a house with Christmas decorations on top. Crash boom bang can that be Santa? To be continued.

Knowing how many tens and hundreds are in numbers

W.A.L.T know how many tens and hundreds are in numbers

For this task, we had to write how many tens and hundreds are in each of these numbers. We also had to write each ten or hundred in the opposite boxes E.g How many tens are in 491 = 49. I have also learned a trick when you are trying to figure out a number in the hundreds you could just take the first two numbers and that is how many tens are in that number.

I liked doing this task because it was easy and I did this task very quickly.

My next step is knowing how many tens are in higher numbers like millions.

Forms of energy

WALT: Increase our knowledge by reading a wide range of texts (Article a day - Book of Knowledge)
On Readworks, our task was to read the text, and then we had to write two or three sentences of what we have learned.  I had fun reading and writing the text because it helped me learn more things about the forms of energy.

I have learned that energy forms are either potential or kinetic. I have also learned that scientists define energy as the ability to do work.

Thumbs up thumbs down

WALT: Dream and discover

For this task, we had to
First:
Make a copy and put it in your CYBER SMART folder. Rename it.

Next:
Read through each of the comments and decide whether you think it deserves a thumbs up or thumbs down.
Use Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V to put the right icon onto each comment.

Then:
Use the comment function to highlight the things that made you decide to give each comment a thumbs up or thumbs down.

Finally:
Download as JPEG.
Share your learning on your blog.

Laws of energy

WALT: Increase our knowledge by reading a wide range of texts (Article a day - Book of Knowledge)
On Readworks, our task was to read the text, and then we had to write two or three sentences of what we have learned.  I had fun reading and writing the text because it helped me learn more things about the laws of energy.

I have learned that energy is neither created nor destroyed. I have also learned that a car engine burns gasoline, converting the chemical energy in gasoline into mechanical energy. Another thing I have learned is that most energy transformations are not efficient. The human body is a good example. The human body is like a machine, and the fuel it requires is food.
