Ecology

W.A.L.T Increase our knowledge by reading a wide range of texts (Article a day - Book of Knowledge)

On Readworks, our task was to read the text, and then we had to write two or three sentences of what we have learned about the text. I had fun reading and writing about what I knew about the text because it helped me learn more things about living things and their habitat.

I have learned that ecology is about nature and life. I have also learned that the bee eats the flower’s sweet nectar. The flower is also full of pollen. Pollen is a substance that looks like dust. When the bee buzzes off, it carries some of the flower’s pollen away on its feet and wings. I also enjoyed writing and summarising about living things and their habitat. I found it challenging to reading the topic about living things and their habitat. Next time I will improve on writing more than three sentences and I will try to write four.

Making Harakeke bracelets

W.A.L.T write a blog post about what we did and made a tech

This week I have created one bracelet made out of Harakeke. After two days it looks like it's losing its color.

I learned how to make a Harakeke bracelet.

I enjoyed folding the Harakeke to make the bracelet.

I found it challenging at the start of making the bracelet because I did not know what to do until I was nearly finished.

Next time I will improve on folding the Harakeke bracelet better so the bracelet does not have fat bumps on it.

Dayton's math word problems

W.A.L.T Create our own maths word problems

This week I have created 3 math word problems, also the first math word problem was just an example of what I had to do.

This week I have learned how to properly create maths word problems.

I have enjoyed finding all of the materials to use for the math word problems.

I found it challenging to think of a math word problem to write and draw about.

Next time I will improve on making harder types of math word problems.

Quick write

WALT: write a story in 10 minutes

This week for writing I had to write a story in 10 minutes. It was hard and fun and this is what I did.

With the weather closing in, and the night about to fall the survivors hear a wolf call. looking around to find the wolf they keep on looking and looking. They went away from camp to find the wolf and then some alien bandits came to steal the survivor's rocket boost and their yummy dinner. After the survivors got back to the camp they had a three-headed wolf but they looked around and most things were gone. They went to look for their gear to finish their rocket ship to get back to their home planet and then when they looked inside a cave where they saw light coming out of the other side. When they walked in they found their stuff but it was inside another rocket ship that was getting ready to blast off so they jumped in and went back to planet earth.

Math word problems

W.A.L.T  work out math word problems

For this task, we had to do 2 math word problems each day during the week. We also had to read the question and then we had to work it out. This was very tricky because I did not know if it was division, multiplication, subtraction, or addition.

Shake out

 W.A.L.T Drop, Cover, and Hold

This morning my class and I had to do an earthquake drill at 9.30. We did this drill to see if we know what to do when there's an earthquake. We had to first drop onto the floor and then second drop underneath a table or a desk after that when you are covered by a desk or a table hold onto the table legs around you.

I learned what to do during an earthquake event.

I enjoyed going under my desk while we were practicing for an earthquake.

Next time I will be sensible while I am under my desk.

WALT: Practice reading using key reading strategies

I have learned that no more than 2,000 giant pandas exist in the world. I have also learned that most bears consume high-energy foods that enable them to slow down and stay in their dens throughout the winter. But bamboo is a low-energy food, so pandas have to eat all year round. They can’t hibernate.
